How F. A. T. Are You?

The following is a highlight of the 08-19-09 program of the monthly BUSINESS OVER BREAKFAST by the Houston West Chamber of Commerce (www.hwcoc.org).

How F. A. T Are You? ©

How do you determine if you are F. A. T.?
• Ask others for their opinion

• Self evaluation compared to what others think

What is your F. A. T. rating?
• 1 = Poor
• 5 = Average
• 10 = OUTSTANDING

Why is it desirable to be F. A. T.?

STAND UP to STAND OUT

STAND UP to STAND OUT

Many of us fear the thought of speaking in public to large groups of people. Why do we foster that fear when we are very comfortable in talking to someone one-on-one with our thoughts and opinions?

Every day, we have an opportunity to stand up about…
• Our jobs
• Our company
• The quality of our work or our values
• Our families; e.g. spouses, kids, grandkids
• Our faith
• Our politics

WHY do we need to Stand Up to Stand Out today?
• Serving others first (see www.… Continue

Referring a Referral - the "best" place to get a referral

Many believe REFERRALS can be one of the best sources of new business. In this discussion, we will explore HOW TO get referrals from others as a means of expanding your business opportunities.

Many of us belong to other networking groups – right? These networking groups range from being very structured with dues and a mandated number of referrals to a more social nature without dues. In each group, how do you determine the group’s value to you in developing new business opportunities?

If you h… Continue

Your 30 Seconds of Fame...Mastering Your Elevator Speech

Our "elevator speech" is probably the most important 30 seconds we may invest when "netweaving" with like-minded people. According to Wikipedia, the term elevator speech is:

Typically used in the context of an entrepreneur pitching an idea to a venture capitalist to receive funding. Venture ca

Joe,
I could not agree with you more. I have observed you can not teach attitude. Although I have hired lots of employees, hiring sales staff will be new to me.

Thanks again for the insight.

Joe,
I enjoyed your blog post on "Super Star Steps to Closing 100 Annual Sales". When hiring sales people, do you look for someone who has this type of structure, or is it enough if you think they can adapt to this type of structure?

Hey Joe, I took a look at your website. As a Mortgage Banker, you recongnize 3 reasons people can't buy: 1. Low Credit Score, 2. High Debt, & 3. Insufficient Cash.

The company that I work with actually helps in these areas and more.
Check out my website at

www.ChangeDebt2Wealth.com

and let me know what you think.

Thanks in Advance,
Larry

Well, I'll be moving out of headhunting and more into a HR role. I'll have to rebuild my consulting business all over again down there, but that's ok. I do a lot of career coaching and seminars, etc. In 2009, I'll finish my second book, so we'll see where all that goes.
So, any job leads that are HR related or recruiting related (but not in an agency) would be wonderful as we get closer.
My husband, Steve is an engineering manager in a 60m, privately held manufacturing company that makes tubing for Freightliner. Think about big exhaust stacks - that's what they do. He runs the department, but is not sure he wants to do that. I think any of the tubing companies down there would be good. He would be expecting another management job or perhaps even in operations.
Please let me know if I can help you to develop your business as well. As my contacts increase in Houston, I will share them.
Happy New Year and the best to you and yours in 2009!
Elizabeth
