We are Barbara and, Martin Meyer, owners of B. Meyer Bookkeeping. We provide computerized bookkeeping services to small to mid-sized business, primarily through the use of QuickBooks accounting software, although we are also experts in the use of Peachtree accounting software. Our goal is to provide our clients with the most up-to-date financial information for their company, so that they can make informed business decisions. We can do everything from the day to day data input, reconciliation of bank and general ledger accounts, to the management financial statements at the end of the month. The financial statements include balance sheet, income statement, and the statement of cashflows.

About Me:
Its not all about me! My wife Barbara and I have over 50 years of combined experience in bookkeeping, accounting, and business management. We established B. Meyer Bookkeeping a few years ago on a part-time basis, and last year decided to take it full time. Barbara is a graduated from the University of Houston with an accounting degree. I have owned an built a number of different business, my last was a MGM Metal Recyclers, which I developed from the ground up and later sold to one of my competitors. It was during the process of developing my different business that I learned the importance of good business financial information.

How to Compute and Record the Adjusting Entry for Payment Received in Advance

Here's some help for closing your 2008 books this month.

In Problem 1 below, the cash received in advance was initially recorded as unearned revenue; in Problem 2, as revenue.

An unpleasant surprise may await S corp. and partnership owners

Under recent IRS guidelines, owners may not receive the full benefit of the 2008 Sec. 179 write-off of $250,000. The IRS says that the deduction applies separately to the entity v. individual owners. (Here, “owner” refers to both the S corp shareholder and the partner in a partnership.)

Southwest Group Breakfast Meeting

We had a great networking breakfast on Tuesday, Jan 6th at the Black Walnut Cafe in Sugar Land. Despite the weather we had 10 people come, enjoy socializing, and networking. I want to thank every one who participated and hope to see you again next month.

I am going to plan an another breakfast for next month and I hope to see more of you from the Southwest area attend.
