With such an incredible turn out for our Inaugural Event Downtown, we are moving our location for August's Mixer to the Houston Center Club. This time you can invite your friends to share in the networking magic because we can accommodate the firs...
My name is Richard Coathup. I have been a Microsoft Developer for 11 years. I have work with such technologies as Visual Basic, ASP, VB.NET, ASP.net, SQL Server database, XML, BizTalk, and Oracle Database. I am very much a team player, so we can work to accomplish to complete task in a timely manner. I am also a person who will pay close attention to detail when given specs to code for. If a spec is not given to me, then I would write up some documentaion on the project. This will help me in my coding to ensure the project goes smoothly. The reason is that I understand that certain projects have sensitive information that needs to be completed correctly due to federal guidelines. I understand how coding the application needs to be correct due the sensitive information and federal guidelines must be followed. I would also help my fellow co-workers in any question they might have or in anything they might need.
I bring to the table around eleven years of experience in software development using Microsoft technologies. I have experience in working with in house applications as well as software products for external clients. My past experience has led me to deeply understand business logic, business process and business rules. As a result, I understand how to translate functional requirements into streamlined and cohesive technical solutions in line with customer (internal or external) specification and expectation.
Hi Richard,
That is such an interesting inquiry to make to yourself. It requires quite some 'homework on your side' but this is what I'd advise:
1. Look at your ideal job and required competencies and skills for it.
2. Look at your own profile and transferable competencies and skills for it.
3. Establish an action plan for what makes you more attractive for a potential employer that includes: training, certifications, networking with others that have been successful in doing a career change...
4. Channel your offer on that different field you are exploring (be ready to put in words WHAT you can do and WHAT your achievements are that prove your cababilities and support your words) and your niche in terms of potential hiring businesses interested in both your IT background and your business analyst potential.
I have witnessed so many cases of people changing 'fields' successfully that I can tell it requires planning, lots of passion, discipline and clarity on your dreams and goals to get you to that final destination you set up on your mind.
A final thought is that you could also think of 'quick fixes' to get you there if you are looking forward to make a change rather sooner than later. Based on your profile you could review what a project management certification could do - or not - for you and easily start broadening your already acquired project management skills to a new field (just a quick thought).
Best Luck on this wonderful and new journey!
Mariela
Hi Richard,
I'm not in a position to make any recommendations right now, but with your skills & background, it should be easy for you to find something.
Hi Richard. Thanks for the add! From the comments below, it sound like you are or were looking for a job. Is that still the case? We are not hiring here at the moment, but I will pass along your resume when I come across companies that are.
It's funny you should write because as I was looking at the members/groups, I did see your profile. Right away I sent your information over to my teammate who's an IT recruiter for consideration. I would like to request a more formal resume for her to review.
Please email to chris_heaney@administaff.com and I'll get it to her right away. I know .NET is high on some of our IT managers and hopefully you match their needs.
