Can you believe it’s that time of the year that we as kids craved? No school! Time with friends! Time with Grandma and Grandpa! All our favorite foods baked and freely handed out. The anticipation of that jolly old man coming to bring us the visions of our dreams and the desires of our hearts!
Now, as we are older and that jolly old man is closer to our age, the Christmas holiday is not as much fun! We work the whole month ahead to make sure that all the gifts are ready, all the favorite foods are prepared, that the relatives are there. We still have to work – sometimes right up to the day of the holiday. We don’t have as much time to play as we did when we were kids. Our grandparents are no longer here, and we are the grandparents.
I say to all of you...Don’t work so hard to make this Christmas so perfect. Part of the joy is in the spontaneity. Make new favorites and new traditions to mix with the old to make it easier and just as enjoyable and fun. There’s no shame in being an adult and enjoying the Christmas holiday as you did when you were a kid! Wake up to anticipation of what the day is to being. Put out the milk and YOUR favorite cookies and enjoy them after everyone else is bed! Be happy to just celebrate life and all the blessings that you have and know that more are on the way.
This Christmas decide to just enjoy the day – no schedule, no stress about anything. Keep in mind the excitement you felt as a child and embrace the day the way you did back then! Time to be with friends and family. Time to enjoy all your favorites – old and new – and don’t worry about the calories. Let the jolly old man come for a visit in your heart this year and let his “HO! HO! HO!” cause you a big smile and maybe even a chuckle. Let your dreams come true and the desires of your heart be fulfilled.
Merry Christmas my friends! May you have the happiness and joy of the season today and forevermore!
