France Telecom and Employee Motivation

France Telecom announced last week that it plans to begin basing up to 30% of a manager’s bonus on social criteria – which includes employee job satisfaction. It’s a good move, but did it take a rash of suicides for a company to hold managers accountable for creating a positive environment where people enjoy their jobs?
