Telling the story of a company, a person or a cause and presenting it in the best possible light is the constant task of a public relations representative. Public relations representatives can be self-employed, work for large or small corporations, government or non-profit agencies or charities. Sometimes a PR representative is hired to help a candidate win an election, or to clean up a corporation's image after negative rumors.
A day for a PR representative can begin at her desk, where the first tasks are usually done on a computer: checking and answering email; tending to social media & events, setting appointments to talk with businesspeople, arranging a photo opportunity for a candidate or a way to spread the word about the person or business.
Public relations representative, the representative usually has an office in the same building as the company's executive officers. A PR representative may eat at the company cafeteria and/or go to all the events for company workers as well as outside events to promote company, while getting facts and photos to put in the company newsletter.
Working in the public eye for most of the day (and evening) means a PR representative should be well groomed and well dressed, with excellent manners. She may be the person wielding the scissors at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for company's grand openings or expansions. Sometimes PR representatives work as lobbyists or attend gala parties for a favorite charity. Other times, she may be standing in a muddy field in the rain or attending mixers, meetings, luncheons, parties, and seminars. Anywhere there is a large group of people to spread the word about your company.
