Thought I Would Share This With Everyone

I thought I would share with you one of my favorite ALL time people, whose business survives well after his death, Dale Carnegie. He might be considered the father of Self Improvement. He and Zig Ziglar are my favorite sales inspirations.

I printed this out and have it next to my phone and on my bathroom mirror.

GOLDEN BOOK – Principles from How to Win Friends and Influence People

Become a Friendlier Person

Disc, Inc. Around Houston

Disc, Inc. Around Houston

Carrie, Anita and I have been busy attending various luncheons, happy hours and other events around town. We have enjoyed the speakers, the networking, and, of course, the food and drinks! (We think that ALL luncheons should be at Maggiano's! Bravo to whomever made that decision!)

Our favorite part is meeting everyone in person, however, and discovering the amazing array of talents and industries that Houston has to offer. We are reminded of how… Continue

Effective Business Cards!

Business cards say a lot about the company they represent. Many times this tool is how prospective clients remember you. A business card needs to contain the pertinent information, who you are, the company name and how to contact you. But, this is not enough. The business card also needs to say something about what your business does. Don't expect the individual to go to your website to learn about you. Give them some key points, trigger their memory as to why they need you. Utilize the entire… Continue

Don't Scruff McRuff!

The Canine Chronicles: Don't Scruff McRuff

by Peter A. Wood

Ever wonder what that bit of excess skin is behind the neck? Or what it's for?

A client's beagle (Ginger) was caught pulling some pot roast off the table. In order to correct her, my client took her at the scruff and shook her. "Not very hard. Just enough to say 'no.' I have never seen that dog so scared in all the years that I've had her. She wouldn't come out from under the piano for… Continue

How to fix healthcare in the US

It's simple. And Easy. It's no cost or low cost, and it's not popular so no one wants to do it.

That is, we as Americans, must take responsibility for our actions (such as overeating and eating fast food) and begin being accountable (such as insisting that PE be put back into the daily lives of our children) More importantly, we as adults must begin moving more every day.

I had the extreme pleasure of listening to a head of a hospital speak recently at a chamber luncheon. His… Continue

Everyone is pushing their products. Do you want to look like them?

Have you been on Twitter recently?

OMG, it's nothing but "I can show you how to get 10 bazillion followers. Click here." Or "Go here to see my crap." Lots of these clowns and clownettes have heard that they need to put out good content. So what do they do? They quote poem verses and platitudes from Zig Ziglar or Oprah or Kiyosaki or Mark Victor Hansen or ANYONE! This is good content? PLEASE! And how in the world does anyone put out good content using only 140…

Many of us fear the thought of speaking in public to large groups of people. Why do we foster that fear when we are very comfortable in talking to someone one-on-one with our thoughts and opinions?

Every day, we have an opportunity to stand up about…

• Our jobs

• Our company

• The quality of our work or our values

• Our families; e.g. spouses, kids, grandkids

• Our faith

• Our politics

WHY do we need to… Continue

Cats Are Finicky People

Cats are finicky people. Yes I know the definition of people is “group of humans” but don’t argue, just listen and you’ll agree; Cats are finicky people.

There’s this cat that lives in my house. It has several different names, Casey, K.C., CaseyJack, Fatso. It doesn’t really matter what you call him, and he answers to none of them. Notice I didn’t say “I have this cat”, or “My cat, K.C.”, or “Our family cat”, no, this cat simply resides in my house, rent free.

He’s like a… Continue

Job Search Success - Good things can still happen.

Are you still looking for work? Do you realize people ARE getting hired right now? So what's the difference?

Every successful job landing I have known in the past year has been accomplished by a candidate who designed a personal plan for success, then worked that plan. I am not talking about spending a lot of time running between job search groups, but I mean really working a plan.

Do you need help with designing just such a plan? Visit Jobs Ministry Southwest… Continue

Rx for Anxiety

"Clarity is the antidote to anxiety, and therefore clarity is the preoccupation of the effective leader. If you do nothing else as a leader, be clear." - Marcus Buckingham

To minimize the confusion:

1. Explain what you are thinking and why

2. Don't simply give an explanation ... show your thought processes up to that point.

3. Give some background, add some explanations.

For instance, when the schedule changes and that impacts your team, explain in enough detail… Continue

It's A Great Time To Invest

From This Week's Barron's

Barron's: Why would anyone want to invest in a private-equity deal in the current economic environment? Castle: Because things are cheaper, for one thing. Prices for private companies are down substantially, perhaps 30% or more, versus two years ago. Furthermore, sellers are frequently being forced to sell premium assets because they may be overleveraged.…

Business Networking: To Dress Or Not To Dress (this is the question)

People form an opinion of you within the first 7 seconds of laying eyes on you. Notice I did not say meeting you. Once that opinion is made by someone, the rest of the time is spent by that person trying to find evidence to support that opinion.

Terrific news, right? On the one hand, we should not waste our lives trying to please others, but on the other hand, should we try to influence their opinions about us with our appearance? Well, why the heck not? I mean, it's an easy thing to do… Continue
