I have been in the gifting/service industry just a couple of years now. Thankfully those years have been fruitful and plentious, but I am a little worried about what is happening here in 2008. Will you be one of the companies that is cutting back on marketing this season?
When I talk to my customers from last year, we tend to have the conversation of how, although the media is letting us know that we are wasteful and squandering people, there are simply some things that we (all of us) have become accustommed to. Marketing during the holidays, gifting to your clients, taking this opportunity to show your appreciation in a personal and deserving way has become a kind of tradition in the business world. Couldn't the cutting-out of this tradition be detremental for the coming year... especially if your competitor has not made those cut-backs?
I am blessed to have a position I love in a company that is very easy to promote. But I have to wonder, how many are making those cuts traditionally are what keeps you in the minds of your clients. A great gift can erase minor character flaws and boost reputation quite awhile... right?
Are ther any takers? Who here is cutting back and who is moving our economy forward while keeping their clients happy.
